ECO-CRITICISM IN NASHIDE GOKBUDAK'S NOVEL "FERAYE"
Maleyka Guseynova

Nature images often appear in different functions in the poetry and prose of Naşide Gökbudak: sometimes as spatial indicators carrying the burden of personal memory, sometimes as living beings struggling to survive in the dense landscape of the city. This article attempts to provide an overview of the ecological critique of nature images in N. Gökbudak’s works. The aim here is not only to describe natural images, but also to show how these images intersect with gender, urbanization, history and language politics. For the ecocritical framework helps to reveal the aesthetic form of the text, as well as to analyze the various functions of nature images, which are the non-human “heroes” of the works.

The subject of the article is the writer's novel "Feraye". The novel presents dramatic and often hopeful stories that emotionally engage the reader, showing the complex nature of love and human relationships, social obstacles and personal sacrifices.

When read within the framework of Lawrence Buell's ecocriticism, the novel shows that nature plays a powerful role in the human drama experienced by the characters. Although natural phenomena  add vitality and dramatic atmosphere to the story, the main focus of the narrative is on human conflicts, political struggles and survival concerns. This reveals that the novel is written from an anthropocentric (human-centered) perspective.
