A mention of the names of Safi al-Din al-Urmawi (1217-1294) in the 13th century, Abd al-Qadir Maraghi (1353-1435) in the 14th-15th centuries, and Mir Mohsun Navvab in the 19th century, who were considered to be great scientists and musicians of their time, is the fact that these people laid the foundation of Azerbaijani music science and the music school after them. “Kitabul-advar fi marifatun-nagam vel avtar” by Safi al-Din al-Urmawi, who opened a whole stage in the history of the development of music theory, “Alhani-siganah”, “Jami-al-Alhan”, “Maqasid al-Alhan”, “Kanz al-Alhan”, “Lahiyya"”, “Risaleyi-favaidiashara” and other works dedicated to the art of music by mugham theorist Abd al-Qadir Maraghi, the works written by Mir Mohsun Navvab in Persian and Arabic languages, mainly “Vuzuh-ul-Argam” written in Azerbaijani, are the best classical and perfect risales in the East. Three outstanding artists like Safi al-Din al-Urmawi, Abd al-Qadir Maraghi and Mir Mohsun Navvab, who have covered all the theoretical and practical issues of Eastern music since the Middle Ages, grew up in Azerbaijan and became a beacon for the talented young people who came after them.
