The article is dedicated to the 95-th anniversary of the birth 75-th anniversary of the creative work of People’s Artist of the Republic, composer Tofig Bakikhanov. He is one of the prominent composers who played a significant role in the development of Azerbaijani musical culture. T.Bakikhanov enriched the Azerbaijani musical treasury with his works. The composer’s work has developed in the general direction of modern music, essentially based on the deep roots of Azerbaijani classical music and affirming the leading principles of originality and realism.

Tofig Bakikhanov wrote in almost all genres of music expert opera. The composer is the author of more than 20 sonatas for violin, viola, cello, flute, piano, trios, quartets, quintets, and concertos for various instruments and symphony orchestra. It should be noted that Tofig Bakikhanov was the first to apply the sonata and concerto genres for viola, cello and flute in Azerbaijani music. He is the author of three ballets, three musical comedies, eight symphonies, five symphonic mughams, symphonic suites, and about 100 songs and romances.

Tofig Bakikhanov was known as a composer who served the development of Azerbaijani musical culture, a violinist with skillful performance abilities, a wonderful teacher who contributed to the training of national musical personnel, an author of scientific and journalisrtic articles dedicated to various problems of music, and an active public figure who widely applied our music in foreign countries. Tofig Bakikhanov enriched the musical treasury of Azerbaijan with his works and wrote beautiful pages in our culture.
