THE ROLE OF IMMIGRANTS FROM SOUTHERN AZERBAIJAN IN THE SOCIO-POLITICAL LIFE OF AZERBAIJAN
Goyarchin Abidgizi

As a result of the military operations carried out by the Shah's regime in Iran in late 1946, the National Government of Azerbaijan collapsed. Consequently, thousands of members of the Azerbaijan Democratic Party (ADP) and intellectuals who supported the National Government were forced to migrate to Soviet Azerbaijan in order to avoid political persecution and imprisonment. This wave of migration was not merely a political event, but also represented a historical stage that had a significant impact on the socio-political, scientific, and cultural life of the Azerbaijan SSR. The southern Azerbaijani immigrants who arrived in Azerbaijan together with S. C. Pishavari played a considerable role in the socio-political life of the country. They contributed not only as ordinary citizens but also by actively participating in various state and public structures, media and ideological institutions, as well as diaspora and propaganda activities. They served in important positions in science, education, literature, theater, music, and other fields, thereby contributing to the enrichment of national culture. Despite the hardships of the time, these southern immigrants preserved their national identity, influenced public opinion, and supported the survival of the national idea within the Azerbaijan SSR.
