SALAM GADIRZADE'S NOVEL "WINTER NIGHT"
Gunel Safarova

The novel had been written in Moscow-Baku during the years 1953-1956, during the crisis of Stalinism and the melting of the "ices". The events in the work are legibly narrated from the author's language. The novel begins with a refreshing spring mood, with the author’s praising Ceyran’s beauty. It is no coincidence that the title of the work is called "Winter night", the events end on a stormy winter night. The novel "Winter Night" is  an unfulfilled love story of a girl named Ceyran with Adil - "The boy playing the tar", it is about the pure feelings that they experience. The events are described against the background of personal and social life, problems and difficulties of young people after the war, and their life and love are discussed.

The analysis of the novel suggests that the novel "Winter Night" by Salam Gadirzade, who gained the sympathy of the readers not only with his stories and plays, but also with his novels, was one of his most effective works, and all the issues raised in the novel were successfully resolved.

Thus, one of the novel's most significant themes is the rule of law and the principle of equality before the law. The author illustrates this through the main character, Adil, who ensures that both his father, Rahman, and his wife, Dilafruz, are held accountable and subjected to the law; noone,  even people's relatives can exempt from the law, a true lawman, legal worker must stand guard of the motherland with honor, conscience, and dignity, and must cope with his work in a dignified manner.

Positive human qualities such as pure, endless love for mother, praise of pure love, loyalty to one's first love, and loyalty in friendship inculcated in the novel are highly appreciated and aimed at instructing future generations.
