Literary environment of Buzovna in the early XX century and educational activity of Buzovna poets

In the article "The literary environment of Buzovna at the beginning of the
XX century and the educational activity of Buzovna poets," the author provides
information about the educational activities of Buzovna's poets, who occupy a
special place in the history of Azerbaijani literary and artistic thought. As known, the
XIX century is characterized by a special period in the history of social thinking in
Azerbaijan. During this period, the spread of ideas of enlightenment in Azerbaijan
led to the formation of a national press at later stages, the development of public
educators and cultural figures in the field of publishing, printing and health care. The
widespread educational ideas in Azerbaijan played an important role in the national
awakening and self-awareness of our nation. In the 30s of the XIX century, on the
initiative of educators, schools were opened in various cities of Azerbaijan,
educational institutions began to function, which opened the way for the
development of national selfconsiousness and cultural progress. In 1917, there were
about 500 schools in Azerbaijan, 16 of which operated in Baku and the villages of
Absheron. schools of a new type were organized in Buzovna, one of the villages of
Absheron, known for its progressive intelligentsia. The poets who were part of the
literary assembly of poets – "Majmaush-shuara" took an active part in this work; as
teachers, they rendered invaluable service in attracting the younger generation to
education, enlightenment and acquisition of knowledge in Buzovna. After the 20s of
the last century, poets-educators of Buzovna – Mashadi Azer Imamaliyev, Hashim
bay Sagib Heybatbayev, Agasalim Imamaliyev (Fadai), Mahammadismail Asi,
Aliagha Shargi, Musa Gamli, Abbasgulu Abdullayev, Khoshsima Khanum
Akhundova, organized schools, educational ideas were spread, rural youth was
involved in education on their initiative. The approach to the new system, social and
political events, enlightenment, spiritual freedom and the ideas of humanism
occupied an important place in the activities of these poets. The aforementioned
intellectuals attached great importance to science and education, tried to educate
young people as free-thinking, progressive people in the new society. Welcoming the
new method of education, these poets-educators ensured the formation of the outlook
of the younger generation, their full participation in education due to great
difficulties. The creation of a new type of secular schools gave impetus to the
development of the spiritual and national progress of the nation.
